Aims

WWild Sexual Violence Prevention Service aims to achieve social justice and systemic change that will uphold the rights of women with intellectual and learning disabilities to live free from sexual violence.

Vision

Our vision is of a society that values people with disabilities and acknowledge their abilities.

WWILD is funded by Queensland Heath and under the auspices of the Disability Training Program – Victims of Crime which is funded under the Department of Communities.

Target Group

Women with intellectual and/or learning disabilities aged 15 years and over who have experienced or at risk of sexual violence

Service Provision

  • Therapeutic and educative groups on interrelated topics such as relationships; sexuality; protective behaviours; sexual violence; self esteem; and other identified needs;
  • Individual support and counselling;
  • Referral to appropriate criminal justice systems i.e. Disability Training Program – Victims of Crime;
  • Advocacy regarding the rights of women with disabilities;
  • One-off events, eg: Reclaim the Night/ International Women’s Day activities; women’s health workshops;
  • Opportunities for women to participate in service development – historically through focus groups, speak-outs, etc.,
  • Training in sexual violence prevention, support of victims of sexual violence and organisational responses, etc.
  • Information, support and resources;
  • Presentation of papers at conferences, seminars and workshops.
  • Increased awareness through media and community development projects,
  • Resource Development and;
  • Input into key government and non government initiatives which affect primary target group.
